Barbara M. Phillips, 84, of Mill Street, Broadalbin died Friday January 8, 2016 at the Wilkinson Residential Health Care Facility in Amsterdam. She was born in Brooklyn on October 9, 1931 a daughter of Alfred A. and Mary A. Minnicki Blakley and moved to Broadalbin as a teen. Barbara was a 1948 graduate of Broadalbin High School. She was a lifelong area resident. Mrs. Phillips was the original waitress at the former Hotel Broadalbin. Later, she was a bookkeeper in the area and was employed at Mohawk Finishing, before retiring, due to disability. She was of the Catholic faith. Barbara was an avid reader, a trait that she passed on to her children. She enjoyed opera, playing the piano, and loved to sketch and paint. She was married to James A. Phillips. He died April 15, 1983. In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by a sister, Helen. Survivors include five daughters, Kathleen A. Milhorn of San Jose, Ca, Colleen Jennings-VanLeer of King George, VA, Eileen Walsh of Inwood, NY, Laureen Poole of Richmond, VA, and Franceen Meacham of Broadalbin; her siblings, Alfred Blakley, Jr., Alexis, and Deborah; ten grandchildren; and thirteen great-grandchildren. A funeral service will be held today (January 10th) at 4pm at the Robert M. Halgas Funeral Home, Inc. 111 County Highway 106 (Corner of Route 29 & Black Street) Johnstown with Rev. Judy Humphrey-Fox, officiating. A calling hour will follow the service. A graveside service will be held in the spring at Union Mills Cemetery.
