Christine J. DeLucia Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Christine J. DeLucia, 77, of Benzal Road, Middle Grove, passed away Thursday, July 21, 2022, at St. Peter’s Hospital, Albany surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Gloversville on August 7, 1944, a daughter of the late John and Eugenia Michalczuk Ryfa, and was a 1962 graduate of Broadalbin High School. Chris later graduated from Mildred Elley. She was a lifelong area resident. Prior to her marriage, Chris was employed at General Electric. When her children were born, she enjoyed being a mom and as they grew, she was very involved in their activities. Chris invested so much love in her neighborhood community that she was known as “Mom” to all of the neighborhood children. In fact, she was often referred to as the “coolest Mom.” Chris enjoyed exhibiting her artistic crochet work at local craft fairs. Mrs. DeLucia was employed from 1980 – 2004 at Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs. She held various positions and retired as a longtime and beloved secretary of the Department of Government. After retiring, Chris enjoyed her many friendships and continued to pursue her many interests, including making beautiful blankets for her friends, exploring different artistic styles in her cards, and traveling with the Broadalbin Seniors. She loved animals and nature and was a skilled gardener. Chris was a prolific reader and a great storyteller. Those who knew her enjoyed berry picking and trail walking with her and valued her loyalty and generosity. Chris cherished her long-time friendships from childhood, and she always welcomed new friends in her life. Above all, she was a best friend to her children. Chris was married to Andrew DeLucia, Jr. on May 26, 1973. He died November 29, 1985. Survivors include two children, Michael Andrew and Susan Jane; a brother, Terry (Kathy) Ryfa; a niece, a great-nephew; many cousins; and her beloved dogs, Sadie and Magnum. Calling hours will be held on Monday from 4 – 7 pm at the Robert M. Halgas Funeral Home, Inc. 111 County Highway 106 (Corner of Route 29 & Black Street), Johnstown. A funeral service will be conducted on Tuesday at 11 am at the funeral home with Rev. Jun Segura, officiating. Burial will be at a later date at St. Basil’s Cemetery, Broadalbin. The family would like to thank the ICCU staff of St. Peter’s for their devoted care of Chris, their extraordinary kindness to the family and their constant efforts to assist them and keep them informed. They would also like to thank the Galway EMS and Galway Fire Department, to whom donations may be made in her name.
