Dominick J. DiGiacomo, Sr., 88 of Briggs Street Ext., Johnstown passed away Friday morning October 11, 2019 at Nathan Littauer Nursing Home, Gloversville. He was born in Gloversville on July 8, 1931 a son of Alexander and Emily Smimmo DiGiacomo and was a 1950 graduate of Gloversville High School. Dominick was a lifelong area resident. Mr. DiGiacomo owned and operated the former Dom’s Barber Shop in Gloversville and later retired from NA Taylor as a production supervisor in 1993 after 26 years of service. Dominick was a US Navy veteran and served aboard the USS Oberon during the Korean War. He was a member of the Emmanuel Baptist Church in Gloversville and served as a deacon. Along with his wife, Barbara, he headed the soup kitchen at the church for fourteen years. He was a member of the church choir and was a Sunday school teacher. He also taught a Bible study at the former Tryon School for seven years. Dominick loved to gather with his family and especially enjoyed outdoor events with his children and grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sisters, Louise Mazzola, Emily and Rose Spencer, and Gertrude Catucci. Survivors include his wife, Barbara Rose DiGiacomo, whom he married on August 17, 1957; three children, Carmi DiGiacomo (Dewitt Dorn) of Gloversville. Dominick (Peggy) DiGiacomo, Jr. of Mayfield, and Joseph (Nancy) DiGiacomo of Broadalbin; his twin brother, Frank DiGiacomo of Johnstown and two brothers, Louis DiGiacomo of New Smyrna Beach, FL and Joseph DiGiacomo of Napa, CA; a sister, Marie Grundemire of Rio Rancho, NM; his brother-in-law, Michael (Suzanne) Rose of Gansevoort; eight grandchildren, Sarah, Kristine, Katie, Rebekah, Maria, Danielle, Dominick III “Bub”, and Kaylea; thirteen great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandson; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Calling hours will be held on Monday from 10 am – noon at the Emmanuel Baptist Church 12 James Street, Gloversville followed by a funeral service at noon with Rev. Peter Ellis, officiating. Burial will be held on Tuesday at 2 pm at the Gerald B. H. Solomon- Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuylerville. Memorial contributions may be made to the church or to the Alzheimer’s Association, both in care of the funeral home. Arrangements are by the Robert M.
