Donald C. Gras Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Donald C. Gras, 89, of Birch Lane, Gloversville, passed away Tuesday, January 18, 2022, at St. Mary’s Healthcare, Amsterdam. He was born in Otego, NY on April 13, 1932 a son of George and Thelma Eckerson Gras and was a 1950 graduate of Hartwick High School. Don lived in Mt. Vision before moving to Amsterdam in 1968. He later moved to Gloversville. Mr. Gras was employed as a manager at Agway, Inc. in Amsterdam for thirty-five years, retiring in 1987. After retiring, he worked with his son at 4 Corner Tire in Perth. Don was a huge auto racing fan and enjoyed attending car races, especially at the Fonda Speedway. He also enjoyed traveling in his RV with his wife. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a grandson, Donald III; and a great-grandson, Donald IV. Survivors include his wife, Wilma Barney Gras, whom he married on March 30, 1952; three children, Donald Gras, Ronald (Joanne) Gras, and Joanne (David) White; two sisters, Shirley Montemurro and Betsy Robinson; three grandchildren, Alicia Gras, Deanna (Dave) Jennings, and Kyle (Erin) Gras; four great-grandchildren, Emma, Justice, Nadia, and Dean; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Calling hours will be held on Sunday from 1 – 3 pm at the Robert M. Halgas Funeral Home, Inc. 111 County Highway 106 (Corner of Route 29 & Black Street), Johnstown followed by a funeral service at 3 with Rev. Dr. Bonnie Orth, officiating. In accordance with current health guidelines, facial coverings and social distancing are required. Burial will be in the spring at Mount Vision Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Fonda Museum, in care of the funeral home. UPDATE SPRING BURIAL INFORMATION: A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, May 19, 2022 at Mt. Vision Cemetery, Mt. Vision, NY (Laurens/Otsego).
