Donald R. Knapp Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Donald R. Knapp, 68, of County Highway 107, Town of Perth, passed away at home Wednesday evening December 3, 2014. He was born in Mayfield on December 25, 1945 a son of the late George and Stella Richardson Knapp and was a 1964 graduate of Northville Central School. Mr. Knapp was a lifelong area resident. Don was employed at the former Coleco Industries in Amsterdam for twenty years as a plant manager until its closing. He later worked at Schoolhouse Warehousing in Mayfield, retiring in 2012. Mr. Knapp was a veteran of the US Army and served during the Viet Nam War. He enjoyed being outdoors and loved hunting, fishing, and camping. Don was a NASCAR fan and enjoyed attending races. His greatest delight was spending time with family and friends. Survivors include his wife, the former Sharon Groves; two sons, Michael (Toni) Knapp of Perth and Shawn Knapp of Louisville, KY; a granddaughter, Kirsten Knapp; his mother-in-law, Anna Groves of Johnstown; his beloved sidekick, Zeke; and several brother- and sister-in-laws, nieces, and nephews. Calling hours will be held on Sunday from 1-3 pm at the Robert M. Halgas Funeral Home, Inc. 111 County Highway 106 (Corner of Route 29 & Black Street) Johnstown. A service will follow at 3 pm conducted by Linda Eastman, Trustee of the Hemlock Independent Church. Cremation will be performed at Park View Crematorium, Schenectady. Final burial will take place at Perth Cemetery at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, in care of the funeral home.
