Gary R. "Chobie" Culver Jr.

Gary R. “Chobie” Culver, Jr., 47, of Reidel Road, Amsterdam passed away Sunday morning July 28, 2019 as a result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident. He was born in Gloversville on July 24, 1972 a son of Gary and Joanne Liszewski Culver and attended school in Gloversville. Chobie was a 1990 graduate of Fonda-Fultonville High School. He was a lifelong area resident. Mr. Culver was employed as a truck driver at County Waste Management of Clifton Park at the time of his death. Chobie was also a go–to handyman and was skilled in plumbing, electrical, carpentry, welding and fabrication. He was an old soul and enjoyed old TV shows, old music, and talk radio. Chobie also loved restoring old cars and tractors in his beloved hand constructed shop. In his teens, he raced motocross achieving the award of New York State Champion in his class. He then later raced quads and pro-stock at Fonda Speedway. Nothing made Chobie prouder than watching his children grow and spending time with his best friend and love of his life Jessie. He was predeceased by his paternal grandparents, Robert (Bob) and Anna Culver and his maternal grandparents, Joseph and Vivian Liszewski, all whom he loved very much. Survivors include three children, Ashley L. Culver of Glenmont, Ariana G. Culver of Fultonville, and Cole N. Culver of Rome; the mother of his children, Jessica Culver of Rome; his parents, Gary and Joanne Culver of Perth; two sisters, Kelly Jo (Tim) Frasier of Gloversville and Karla (Eric) Arell of Carmel; his adored canines, Jake and Jack; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins. The family will receive relatives and friends on Thursday from 2-4pm at the Robert M. Halgas Funeral Home, Inc. 111 County Highway 106 (Corner of Route 29 & Black St), Johnstown. A funeral service will be held at 4pm with Rev. Dr. R.W. Williams, officiating. A celebration of life will follow at 226 Reidel Road Amsterdam, NY 12010 where all are welcome. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude’s Research Hospital, in care of the funeral home.
