George E. Lockyer Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

George E. Lockyer, 92, of Bridge Street, Broadalbin, passed away Thursday, May 12, 2022, at Wilkinson Residential Health Care Facility. He was born in Broadalbin on December 20, 1929, a son of Thomas and Eleanor Hammond Lockyer and moved to Ilion as a child. George graduated from Ilion High School and later from Denver University where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree. He lived in Massachusetts and later in Glenville before moving back to Broadalbin in 1991. Mr. Lockyer was a Professor Emeritus and taught at Schenectady County Community College for more than eighteen years and retired in 1994. George was a veteran of the US Navy. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, and traveling. In addition to his parents, George was predeceased by a sister, Marcia, and a daughter, Jennifer. Survivors include his wife of seventy years, Mary Lou Jones Lockyer; a son, Jeffrey Lockyer; a daughter, Christine Lockyer (Ray LaPorte); a sister, Ruth Lockyer; four grandchildren, Brandon (Sascha) Lockyer, Nicholas Lockyer, Cole (Rebecka) MacLean, and Sara MacLean; and three great-grandchildren, Layla, George, and Bryce. Cremation was performed at Park View Crematorium, Schenectady. A calling hour will be held on Friday, May 20, 2022, from 1 – 2 pm at the Robert M. Halgas Funeral Home, Inc. 111 County Highway 106 (Corner of Route 29 & Black Street), Johnstown followed by a prayer service at 2pm with Deacon Gregg Wilbur, officiating.
