Jack C. Akey

Jack C. Akey, 55, of Broadalbin, passed away on Monday July 10, 2017. He was born in Amsterdam on February 5, 1962 the son of Carol Insonia Akey and was a 1981 graduate of Gloversville High School. Jack was a standout football player at school and extended his football career by playing for several years as a Glove City Colonial. He retired from the New York State Department of Corrections, with the majority of his career spent at Hale Creek ASACTC. At the time of his death, Jack was employed at GlobalFoundries/Allied Universal. He enjoyed boating on the Great Sacandaga Lake, travelling to the ocean, camping, ice fishing, and was an avid Green Bay Packer fan. Most importantly, he was a devoted family man and proud father to his four children. Jack was predeceased by his grandfather, Orlando “Spike” Insonia. Survivors include his wife, Christina, whom he married on May 16, 1998; three sons, Zachary, Nathanial, and Christian; a daughter, Jacklyn; his loving mother, Carol Akey; step-father, Raymond Akey; three brothers, Mark, Chad, and Aaron; his grandmother, Elizabeth Insonia; mother-in-law, Oksana Dulysz; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who loved him deeply. Calling hours will be held on Friday from 2 – 8 pm at the Robert M. Halgas Funeral Home, Inc. 111 County Highway 106 (Corner of Route 29 & Black Street), Johnstown. A prayer service will be held at 6pm at the funeral home with Rev. Kathy Reese, officiating. An honor guard will be provided by the NYS Dept. of Corrections. Burial will be in Union Mills Cemetery at the convenience of the family. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Legion Post #337 or to the NYS Department of Corrections Benevolent Association, both in care of the funeral home.
