Jonathan Michael Lander Ferndale, MI Jonathan Michael Lander, age 27, formerly of Gloversville, NY passed away on Saturday, June 5, 2021 in Ferndale, MI where he resided since 2018. Born in Amsterdam, NY on January 28, 1994, he was a son of Laureen Gerdes-Lander. Jon was a 2012 graduate of Gloversville High School and attended Schenectady Community College. He earned an associate degree in auto mechanics from Fulton Montgomery Community College and began his passion for cars. Jon later attended the University of Northwestern Ohio, graduating with a second associate degree specializing in high performance engines. Jon was immediately hired at Suburban Exotic Motor Cars of Michigan as they admired his enthusiasm for high performance vehicles and his willingness to relocate to Michigan. Over time, he became a Master Automobile Technician. Jon loved his Saab and spent countless hours driving, rebuilding, and fixing it. He enjoyed taking long drives on Woodward Avenue in Michigan. Jon was selfless, loyal, considerate, sincere, and cared about everyone he came in contact with. He was passionate about what he loved and put a smile on everyone’s face when he walked into a room. He was a go-getter who turned his dreams into reality. Jonathan was predeceased by his Bonus Grandmother, Bonnie Sullivan and a Bonus Uncle, Timothy Thomas. Left to carry on his legacy is his mother, Laureen Gerdes-Lander; his Bonus Dad, Michael P. Thomas; a sister, Rachel, who adored him; a Bonus Brother, Owen (Serena) Thomas, who shared his passion for cars; a Bonus Sister, Holly Thomas; his step-mother, Jennifer Lander; his half-brother, Billy Lander III, who looked up to Jon as a role model and whom he loved dearly; his maternal grandmother, Christine Cohen; a Bonus Grandfather, Ray Sullivan; his paternal grandparents, William and Claudia Lander, Sr.; aunts and uncles, Casey Gerdes, Chris Gerdes, Teresa (John) Moore, Joanna (Scott) Laubisch, Chuck Lander, Kim Lander; Carrie Riley; cousins, Makenna, Reilly, Morgan, Ryan, Kya, Ava, C.J., Kayla, Austin, Tony; additional Bonus Family, Robert (Beth) Thomas, III, Robert, Michael, Hayleigh Power, Jessica, Heather, and Becky; many special friends from Michigan that befriended Jon, including his Saab group, motorcycle group, Friendsgiving group, Tyler Hahn and family in PA, Savannah Finkle, and many others. The family will receive relatives and friends Monday, June 28, 2021 from 4-7 p.m. at the Robert M. Halgas Funeral Home, Inc. 111 County Highway 106 (Corner of Route 29 & Black Street) Johnstown. A memorial service will follow at 7 p.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Dr. R.W. Williams, officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions and/or blood donations may be made to the American Red Cross.
