Joseph S. Banovic, Sr.
November 9, 1974 - April 1, 2017
Joseph S. Banovic, Sr., 42, of Johnstown, passed away on Saturday April 1, 2017. Although unexpected, it was a fitting day for the jokester he was. Joe was witty with a contagious smile, bringing laughter to his family and friends. He was born in Amsterdam on November 9, 1974 and attended school in Gloversville and Johnstown. Joe had an easy scholastic career. He was a bright and talented student and teachers enjoyed him. Joe excelled at music and played the trumpet and later the guitar. He worked as a certified lifeguard at the Northampton campground while in school. Later, Joe was a heavy equipment operator. He also drove tractor trailer. Joe’s employers were impressed with his trustworthiness and his remarkable work ethic. He enjoyed riding his Harley, snowmobiling, racing, hiking in the “daks”, spending time at the lake, traveling, playing poker, and a good party complete with a bonfire. Although Joe enjoyed good times, he was also a very intellectual and deep thinker. He was never afraid to speak his mind for his passions and beliefs. Joe leaves us with sudden sadness but also with many memories of smiling and good times. He was predeceased by a daughter, Haylei, who earned her angel wings in 2004. Survivors include his children, Joey Jr., Emali, and Nevaeh; his mother and step-father, Vicki Rumrill and Herbert “Pat” Green, Sr.; his father, Stanley (Doreen) Banovic; his companion, Renee Lander; two brothers, Michael Banovic and Joshua (Jessica) Jacobson; and Jay Tesiero, who was like a brother to Joe; a step-sister, Gwedolyn DeCicco; his former wife, Shauna McGuire; several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins. Joe was like a brother to the many friends he leaves behind. He had a kind and forgiving heart and would lend a hand to anyone who needed help. Cremation was performed at Park View Crematorium, Schenectady. Calling hours will be held on Saturday from 10 am – noon at the Robert M. Halgas Funeral Home, Inc. 111 County Highway 106(Corner of Route 29 & Black Street) Johnstown followed by a memorial service at noon with Pastor Pete Goodsill.
