Joseph W. Cardone

November 25, 1948 - May 25, 2021

Joseph W. Cardone, Jr., 72, of Maple Street, Broadalbin passed away Tuesday, May 25, 2021, at Albany Medical Center surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Richmond Hill, NY on November 25, 1948 a son of the late Joseph and Helen Kerrigan Cardone and was a graduate of local schools there. Mr. Cardone resided in Lake Ronkonkoma before moving to Broadalbin in 1982. Joe was a twenty year member of the NYPD and retired in 1986. He worked undercover in the Narcotics Division, and later became a detective working with the Arson & Explosive Division. After retiring, Joe owned and operated the Broadalbin Stamp & Coin in the village. Mr. Cardone was a longtime member of St. Joseph’s Church in Broadalbin. He also worked tirelessly for the church and was very active in fundraising dinners and the annual church festival. Joe was a lifelong member of the Knights of Columbus and served as Grand Knight for Council #7629 in Broadalbin for several years. He served as District Deputy for the Capital Conference and was the coordinator for the annual Bishop’s Burse. Joe was a member of the 4th Degree Rev. Peter H. Smith Assembly #2505 and its Color Corp. He was a coordinator of the Bingo and Bell Jar committee at the parish center. Joe enjoyed fishing, boating, and spending time at the family camp at Silver Bay in Broadalbin. Mostly, he loved spending time with family and friends, especially his grandchildren. Survivors include his wife, Patricia Cole Cardone, whom he married on December 5, 1970; four children, Mary Cardone of Broadalbin, Michelle (Christopher ) Partlow of Gansevoort, Sean (Katie ) Cardone of Troy, and Brian Cardone of Broadalbin; three precious grandchildren, Chelsea, Andrew, and Stella; a brother-in-law, Kevin Cole; a sister-in-law, Ann Gilvin; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Calling hours will be held on Friday from 4 – 7 pm at the Robert M. Halgas Funeral Home, Inc. 111 County Highway 106 (Corner of Route 29 & Black Street) Johnstown. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday at 11am at St. Joseph’s Church, 7 North Street, Broadalbin with Rev. Jun Segura, officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to the Northeast Kidney Foundation or to St. Joseph’s Church, both in care of the funeral home.
