Leona A. Capito, 84, of Riverside Place, Alplaus, passed away on Wednesday, February 16, 2022, at Baptist Health Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Scotia. She was born In Clinton, NY on December 9, 1937, a daughter of Stanley and Catherine Swietonwski Pasciak and was a 1956 graduate of Clinton Central School. Leona lived in Alplaus for more than fifty-five years. Leona placed the wellbeing of her children first and foremost in her life. She loved to bake delicious desserts, pies, cakes, and cookies, especially at Christmas. She took pride in baking and decorating her childrens' wedding cakes. She was the encouraging force in promoting her childrens' further education and importance of such. Leona always had a driving determination to get through any health issue she may have faced in life. She enjoyed camping as much as life itself. Above all, Leona had an enduring love for her spouse (who grew up across the street from her), her children, their spouses, and her grandchildren. In addition to her parents, Leona was predeceased by an infant daughter, Lisa Ann. Survivors include her husband, Gerald A. Capito, whom she married on July 1, 1961; a daughter, Bonnie Cloutier of Niskayuna; three sons, David (Elizabeth) Capito of Rouses Point, NY, Patrick (Carrie) Capito of Perth, Russell (Lisa) Capito of Ortonville, MI; nine grandchildren, Ben (Jena Contreras), Laura (Charles) Araujo, Emberly, Andrew, Kevin (Bridget Hall), Molly (Dylan) List, Julie, Sarah, and Alyssa; a great-grandson, Kieran “Jack”; a sister, Stella Papcun of Seattle, WA; a brother, Stanley Pasciak of Dacula, GA; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Cremation was performed at Park View Crematorium, Schenectady. Calling hours will be held on Friday from 4 - 6 pm at the Robert M. Halgas Funeral Home, Inc. 111 County Highway 106 (Corner of Route 29 and Black Street) Johnstown followed by a prayer service at 6 pm at the funeral home with Rev. Jim Davis, officiating. Final inurnment will be at a later date at St. Stanislaus Columbarium, Amsterdam. Memorial contributions may be made in her memory to the Adirondack Council, in care of the funeral home.
