Robert S. Lewandowski, 71, of County Highway 126, Amsterdam died Sunday evening March 1, 2015 at St. Mary’s Healthcare surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Amsterdam on June 11, 1943, a son of Clarence and Stephania Dudka Lewandowski and was a 1961 graduate of Perth High School. Bob later graduated from Hudson Valley Community College. He was a lifelong area resident. Mr. Lewandowski was employed for forty-three years as an engineer with GE Global Research, Niskayuna before retiring in 2010. He received numerous significant awards including the Dushman Award, Redington Award, Chief Technologists’ Award, and the Willis R. Whitney Technical Achievement Award for work in medical ultrasound development and held twenty-four patents while working at GE. He was a member of St. Joseph’s Church in Broadalbin. Mr. Lewandowski was a member of the Zoning Board of Appeals in the Town of Perth. Bob enjoyed gardening, clock and watch repair, photography, golfing, and carpentry. He was very knowledgeable in mechanical and electrical repairs. His greatest delight was spending time with his grandchildren, especially playing chess with his grandson. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Clemens “Chops” Lewandowski. Survivors include his wife, Gay Tyler Lewandowski, his high school sweetheart and best friend whom he married on May 23, 1964; a loving son, Chad (Angela) Lewandowski of Glenville; a brother, Thomas (Theodora) Lewandowski of Buffalo; a sister-in-law, Stacia Lewandowski of Perth; three adoring grandchildren, Olivia, Chloe, and Chad Lewandowski; several nieces, nephews, and cousins, and devoted pets April, Odie, Sara Mae and Frostie. A funeral service will be held on Friday, March 6th at 11 am at the Robert M. Halgas Funeral Home, Inc. 111 County Highway 106 (Corner of Route 29 & Black Street) Johnstown, with Deacon Ed Solomon officiating. Burial will be at the Hagaman Cemetery. Calling hours will be held on Thursday, March 5th from 5 – 8 pm at the funeral home.
