Barbara J. Tautznik

Barbara J. Tautznik, 74, of Lathrop Road, Gloversville, passed away on Monday, January 12, 2026, at St. Mary’s Healthcare in Amsterdam. She was born in Amsterdam on February 4, 1951, a daughter of James A. and Rena Frederick Miller and was a 1969 graduate of Perth Central School. Barbara later graduated from Spencer Business Institute. She was a lifelong area resident. Mrs. Tautznik was employed at Amsterdam Print and Litho and later was a secretary at FMCC for more than five years. She worked as an administrative professional at Fulton County Department of Social Services for 26 years, retiring in 2013. She was a former member of First Presbyterian Church in Broadalbin and later a member of St. Stanislaus Church in Amsterdam. In high school, Barbara was a cheerleader and later enjoyed playing softball and volleyball. She was a member of the Tri-County Twirlettes and eventually taught classes with her sisters. She enjoyed boating and swimming, downhill skiing, snowmobiling, snowshoeing, and riding motorcycles. Barbara also enjoyed line dancing throughout the area. She was the first woman to be awarded a life membership of the Pine Tree Rifle Club. She enjoyed sewing and could repair just about anything. “If she couldn’t do it, she would tell you how to do it”. In addition to her parents, Barbara was predeceased by siblings, Carol Phillips, Karen Ann Boyd, and James A. Miller, Jr. Survivors include her husband, Peter Tautznik whom she married on September 22, 2007; two children, Randall H. Cannell, II and his wife, Kim E. Scott of Broadalbin, and Valerie (Neil) Siefried of Virginia Beach, VA; a stepson, Peter J. (Kristy) Tautznik, Jr. of Fort Myers, FL; three sisters, Joan (Dominick “Chick”) Simeone of Hagaman, Susan Lee Miller (Ron Davis) of Amsterdam, and Gail (John) Carusone of Broadalbin; two half-sisters, Joanne (Dick) Mucilli of Amsterdam and Jill (Rob) Cassube of Alexandria, VA; a stepbrother, Jim (Lisa) Hare of Broadalbin; four grandchildren, Elizabeth, Emily, Julia, and Matylen; two granddogs, Apollo and Foster; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Cremation was performed at Park View Crematorium, Schenectady. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday from 4 – 7pm at the Robert M. Halgas Funeral Home, Inc., 111 County Highway 106 (Corner of Route 29 & Black Street), Johnstown. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, January 22, 2026, at 11am at St. Stanislaus Church, 50 Cornell Street, Amsterdam with Rev. O. Robert DeMartinis, officiating. Final burial will be held in the spring at Broadalbin-Mayfield Rural Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Mountain Valley Hospice, the Education Department at Pine Tree Rifle Club, or Roswell Comprehensive Center in Buffalo, in care of the funeral home.
