Carol Ann Barras

Carol Ann. Barras, 74, of Fish House Road, Galway, passed away at home on Friday, January 13, 2023. She was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. Born in Glens Falls on December 24, 1948, Carol was a daughter of Glen and Pearl Walker Pepper and the stepdaughter of Roland Lemery. She attended school in Galway. She was a lifelong area resident and often spent winters in Brooksville, Florida. Carol was a waitress for many years. She also bartended at Sam’s Harbor in Mayfield and later at the former Robin’s Nest in Broadalbin. She established Carol’s Ceramics, which she owned and operated for nearly fifteen years. Her last employment was as a home health aide for the Community Health Center in Johnstown, retiring in 2008. During her younger years, Carol spent time fishing with her family, tending to her vegetable gardens, crocheting, bowling, and baking. She will be remembered for her swan-shaped cream puffs, zucchini bread, homemade doughnuts, and applesauce. Most recently, she treasured the time spent with her family and friends, including the outings with her sisters, her special time with “Grandma’s girl”, and caring for her dog Gidget. She also enjoyed bingo, trips to the casino, and working on her many “projects”. Carol will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. In addition to her parents, Carol was predeceased by her son, Richard Bennett; her longtime partner, Reggie Hotte; a sister, Patricia; and two brothers, David and Glen “Skip”. Survivors include two daughters, Melissa (Robert) Ross and Kimberly (Randy) Bierman, both of Galway; eight grandchildren, Matthew, Jake, Kaylee, Cynthia, Shania, Andrea, Luke, and Brandon; ten great-grandchildren, Peyton, Presley, Charlie, Christian, Jaxson, Jaydyn, Evonna, Abigail, Allison, and Adeline; her siblings, Glenda Bush, Donna LaPan, Karen Quiles, Ronald Pepper, William Pepper, Joseph Lemery, and Diane Marriot; and several nieces and nephews. Cremation was performed at Park View Crematorium, Schenectady. Calling hours will be held on Saturday, January 21, 2023, from 11 am – 1 pm at the Robert M. Halgas Funeral Home, Inc. 111 County Highway 106 (Corner of Route 29 & Black Street), Johnstown. A memorial service will follow at 1pm at the funeral home with Rev. Dr. Bonnie Orth, officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to the Brennan Memorial Humane Society, in care of the funeral home.
