George H. Lee

George H. Lee, 81, of Union Mills Road, Broadalbin, passed away on Saturday, March, 2, 2024, at the Wells Nursing Home in Johnstown, after a brief illness. He was born at home in the Town of Providence on March 29, 1942, a son of Harry and Marjorie Lee and was a 1960 graduate of Galway High School. George was a lifelong area resident. Mr. Lee was employed as a logger for fifty years, and owned and operated G.L. & R.L. Logging, Inc., in Broadalbin. He started with an old pickup truck and a chainsaw and grew to be one of the larger timber harvesting companies in the area. George hired many loyal employees during the years that remained close friends of his. He enjoyed attending the Boonville Woodsmen’s Field Days as well as local fairs and loved the tractor pulls as much as the great fair food. He also enjoyed cookouts with family, friends, and neighbors. George was a homebody and never really liked traveling. However, for his 50th wedding anniversary, the entire family enjoyed spending time together in Old Orchard Beach, Maine; and he even put his feet in the sand. In addition to his parents, George was predeceased by a daughter, Tracy; his in-laws, George and Roberta Bornt; two brothers, Robert (Jean) Lee and Jim Lee; and two sisters, Ann (Wendell) Downs and Ginny Potter. Survivors include his wife, Sandra Bornt Lee, whom he married on May 19, 1962; two daughters, Trisha Tortorello (Ron Dellivereri) and Penny (Wayne) Sands; four grandchildren, Vincent and Alyssa Sands, and Ryan and Chelsea Tortorello; a brother, Tom (Ruth) Lee; a sister-in-law, Cheryl Lee; a brother-in-law, Richard (Charlene) Bornt; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Cremation was performed at Park View Crematorium, Schenectady. Calling hours will be held on Saturday from 11am – 1pm at the Robert M. Halgas Funeral Home, Inc. 111 County Highway 106 (Corner of Route 29 & Black Street), Johnstown followed by a memorial service at 1pm at the funeral home, with Linda Eastman, presiding. Final burial will take place at Union Mills Cemetery, at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Broadalbin-Perth Lions Club, in care of the funeral home. The family would like to express their appreciation to the staff at Wells Nursing Home for the care they provided to George.
