Gladys M. Halloran

In the pre-dawn hours of June 16, 2025, surrounded by her adoring children, Gladys Mae Farrell Halloran was peacefully reunited with her beloved husband, Michael, in paradise. Gladys was born on March 9, 1942, in Mount Kisco, New York. She was the fifth of seven children to the late John and Gladys Farrell of Brewster, New York. Gladys attended elementary school at Saint Lawrence O’Toole in Brewster and graduated in 1959 from St. Mary's High School in Katonah, New York. As a youth, Gladys was very active, excelling in water skiing, dancing, singing, and cheerleading. She was a top scholar in her class at St. Mary’s and went on to attend the esteemed Katharine Gibbs executive clerical school in New York City. Gladys’ professional aspirations were eclipsed when she met her future husband of 60 years. That fateful encounter would go on to shape the remainder of her life. Gladys and Michael were married on September 23, 1961, and commenced growing their family soon thereafter. They lived on Prospect Street and Crosby Avenue in Brewster until 1971, when they moved to Northville, New York, following a transfer in duty assignment that Michael received from the New York State Police. It was in Northville that Gladys and Michael raised their seven children and went on to welcome seventeen grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren in the subsequent years. Throughout her life, Gladys was a devout Catholic servant. She was a very active parishioner at Saint Francis Church in Northville, where she volunteered as a religious education instructor for many years and served on the parish council. She was a visible member of the Northville community and an enthusiastic supporter of her children's education and extracurricular activities, including band, choir, drama, and athletics. She particularly enjoyed cheering on the various sports teams of her children and grandchildren. Gladys had many friends throughout her life and was known for her cheerful, witty, engaging nature. She loved to dance, converse, and laugh. She was very content to hold down the proverbial fort with her large family while Mike devoted a considerable amount of time to his ascending career with the state police. Mike was the first to admit that she was the rock of the family. Gladys was fiercely loyal to those she loved. She enjoyed getting together with her parents, six siblings, and their expanding families. The large Farrell family reunions were always favorite occasions. Family was everything to Gladys, and she happily did all in her personal power and through prayer to help her loved ones through life's challenges. Gladys will be remembered for her good nature, humility, and genuine concern for the well-being of others. She was a loyal friend who held an unwavering faith in God and a special devotion to the Blessed Mother throughout her life. She will be dearly missed by her large surviving family and ever-expanding friend group. Gladys is predeceased by her husband, Michael, her parents, John and Gladys Farrell, her siblings, Edward (Margaret) Farrell, Mary (Jack) Dingee, Richard Farrell, and her brother-in-law, Edward Weston. She is survived by her siblings, Joan Weston, Nancy (Malcolm) Beal, John (Ann Marie) Farrell, sisters in-law, Alma Hale-Cooper and Patricia Farrell, her children, Michael (Elaine) Halloran Jr., John Halloran, Paul (Marlene) Halloran, Judith (Michael) Scunziano, Daniel (Jeanie) Halloran, Thomas (Hanna) Halloran, David (Joanne) Halloran, along with seventeen grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Calling hours will be held on Thursday, June 19, 2025, from 4-7 p.m. at the Robert M. Halgas Funeral Home, Inc. 111 County Highway 106 (Corner of Rt. 29 & Black St.), Johnstown. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at noon on Friday, June 20, 2025, at St. Francis Catholic Church in Northville. Burial will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Northville. In lieu of flowers, donations to Tunnels to Towers may be made in Gladys’ name at T2T.org
