Louis D. Magliocca

Louis D. Magliocca, 60, of North Main Street, Broadalbin, passed away on Friday morning, June 28, 2024, at home, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Albany on January 26, 1964, a son of Daniel and Lynne Billington Magliocca and was a 1982 graduate of Bishop Scully High School. Lou earned a Bachelor’s degree from Hobart College in 1986. He lived in Amsterdam before moving to Broadalbin in 1998. Lou retired from his role as the executive director at the Capital District YMCA in Schenectady. During his tenure, he played a key role in the establishment of the 845 Commons Men’s Residence. Additionally, Lou dedicated 25 years to serving as the Director of the Broadalbin Youth Commission, focusing on enhancing and expanding the youth sports programs. Lou was known for his love of sports which defined much of his life. As a high school athlete, he lettered in baseball, football, and basketball. Lou was awarded a football scholarship at Hobart College, where he played center. His passion for sports extended beyond competition, fostering a sense of community among all who shared their love of the game. His coaching career began at Bishop Scully in 1986 where he was the youngest high school football coach in Section 2. Lou went on to coach the Amsterdam Little Giants which paved the way for the formation of the BYC’s Little Patriots football program. He also played an integral part in the acquisition of Broadalbin’s Town Park which will be enjoyed by many generations to come. Lou received many awards and tremendous accolades for the dedicated service that he provided throughout his life… honestly, too many to list. He enjoyed horseracing, owned a few horses, and was known as quite the handicapper. His favorite photo opportunity was the winner’s circle. Lou loved the Buffalo Bills and the NY Mets, but his favorite teams were those that his children and grandchildren played on. Lou married his high school sweetheart, Elizabeth Krutz Magliocca, on October 5, 1986. Their life together produced four children, Megan (Daniel) Togaila, Marley Magliocca, Mianna Magliocca, and Luigi Magliocca, all of whom he was very proud. Surviving loved ones include his mother, Lynne Magliocca; two brothers, Joseph (Yavonne) Magliocca and Michael (Dianne) Magliocca; four beautiful grandchildren, Gabriel, Gehrig, Gianna, and Grayson Togaila; three nieces, two nephews; along with several aunts, uncles, and many cousins. He was predeceased by his father, Daniel Magliocca. Lou’s circle of friends extended far and wide, and he will be forever loved and missed by all who knew him. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday from 4 – 7 pm at the Robert M. Halgas Funeral Home, Inc. 111 County Highway 106 (Corner of Route 29 & Black Street), Johnstown. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday at 11am at St. Mary’s Church 156 East Main Street, Amsterdam with Father Nathaniel Resila, officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Fort Johnson. Memorial contributions may be made to the Broadalbin Youth Commission, in care of the funeral home. “Until next time, my friend…”
