Richard William Royal

Richard W. Royal of 120 Northern Pines Road, Gansevoort, NY, passed away on March 5, 2025 at the age of 82. He was born in Hollis, Queens, NY on January 16, 1943, a son of Franklin and Ruth Kitt Royal. He was raised in Huntington, Long Island with his three brothers. In 1959, the family moved to Mayfield, NY where Richard graduated with the class of 1961 then joined the National Guard. In 1963, he married Barbara Peasley, had three daughters, and worked for General Telephone as a Lineman and Supervisor of Installations for 19 years. Later, he would work as a John Hancock Sales Representative and Information Systems Technician at Quad/Graphics, and lastly a driver/guard for Loomis Armored US. In the Bicentennial year of 1976, Richard planned an epic five-week cross country family vacation passing through 22 states. Along the way, many points of interest were visited including Disney World, Carlsbad Caverns, Las Vegas, Hoover Dam, Zion National Park, Bryce Canyon National Park, Gateway Arch, and many historical sights. The trip of a lifetime filled with adventure and wonderful memories. Later in life, he took many road trips through Vermont to enjoy the fall foliage and visit old country stores, quaint eateries, and antique shops. He loved all animals but had a soft spot for dogs. His last dog, Dolly, was a great companion and gave him many years of love and friendship. Richard’s love for animals was passed on to his three daughters who are forever grateful for this gift. Richard was a hardworking, dedicated man who loved his family, helped his friends and neighbors, donated to numerous charities, and lived his life the ROYAL way. He smoked a pipe, never turned down a cold beer, and loved a NY style pizza. In addition to his parents, Richard is predeceased by his brother, Franklin. Survivors include his wife, Rosa Wasyliw Royal whom he married in 2009; three daughters, Cathleen Royal and Jennifer Royal, both of Northville and Melissa (Murray) Tynan of Ballston Spa; Mother of his children, Barbara Rockwell of Northville; two brothers, Ronald (Ronni) Royal of Wells, Guy Royal of Johnstown; and several nieces and nephews. Richard will be greatly missed. In accordance with his wishes a family gathering will be held privately. Arrangements are by Robert M. Halgas Funeral Home, Inc., Johnstown, NY.
