Samuel M. James

Samuel M. James, 44, of Gloversville, passed away at home on Saturday, July 27, 2024. He was born on March 28, 1980, in Gloversville, the son of Martin A. and Sally A. Ferjanec James. He was a 1998 graduate of Mayfield High School and a lifelong area resident. Sam was a long term and dedicated employee of Walmart Distribution Center, where he made many friends of his colleagues. He was a loving son, brother, nephew, uncle, and friend. He cherished time with his family and took great pride in watching his nieces and nephews grow. He was sure to have a special treat or trinket to share with them whenever he was in their presence. Sam grew up on the Great Sacandaga Lake. He always had an innate curiosity for nature and found solace in spending time in the woods and on the water. Sam was a skilled fisherman. No matter the season, he spent much of his time visiting secret fishing spots reeling in whoppers. He was happy to share his knowledge and love of the sport. Sam could often be seen riding his bike. He would cover great distances, looking for scenic routes on the roads and through the mountains. He also enjoyed downhill skiing in the winter months with friends and family. He had a special connection with nature and was at peace hiking in the woods. Having many interests and hobbies, Sam was a collector of vintage and nostalgic items. He was excited to share his finds and even pass them down to others. One of his most prized collections was vintage records. He had a love for music that spanned genres and decades. He was very artistic and created many unique pieces of art. His creative abilities extended to many building projects with his father. When given any task, Sam always came through with physical strength and perseverance. Sam’s kind and easy-going presence will be greatly missed. He was a man of few words, but quick-witted and had a great sense of humor. He loved to tell stories and to share local legends and folklore. Sam was one-of-a-kind In addition to his parents, survivors include two sisters, Stacy (Jason) Marlin of South Carolina and Courtney Romeyn of Mayfield; aunts and uncles, Lori (Mike) Mucilli and John and (Kathy) Ferjanec; cousins, Tony (Jessica) Mucilli, Julie (Ben) Mucilli, Colleen Grocer, and Sara Ferris; and five nieces and nephews. Private services will be held at a later date. To honor Sam’s memory, we ask you to live simply, go find yourself in the woods, be patient, talk less – listen more, enjoy nature and the peace it brings. Each and every one of us wish we could be more like Sam.
