Suzanne Borden Palumbo

On August 19th, 2026, the Lord received Suzanne Palumbo to his eternal kingdom. Suzanne was born August 14, 1947, to the late Frederick and Josephine Zayicek Rohrs of Johnstown, NY. Her childhood was filled with endless memories of home-cooked meals, sewing, expansive gardening, and let us not forget, standing-room-only Friday night gatherings whenever the Sir Bills would be playing at Knox field just a block from their back door. A voracious reader, Suzanne spent much of her youth at the Johnstown Public Library, a place where her imagination was nourished with countless volumes of fiction, historical texts, and her favorite: mysteries. In 1972, she met the love of her life, Stephen Palumbo. They built a life together with a shared love for gardening, cooking, and abundant laughter: all of this they enjoyed until his passing in 2016. Suzanne's passion for helping all walks of life will forever be remembered in her outreach for stray cats when she and several others founded the organization Save Our Cats, Kittens, and Strays (SOCKS) in Gloversville. Her efforts helped curb the stray cat population in the city at a time when it was needed the most. Suzanne was a graduate of the College of St. Rose where she received a B.S. in Computer Science. By the end of a very fulfilling career, she served as the manager of the Information Technology Department with St. Mary’s Hospital, from where she retired in 2009. In addition to Stephen and her parents, Suzanne was predeceased by her first husband, Howard Borden; a sister, Patricia St. Peter; a brother, Christian M. Rohrs and his wife, Kathie J.; a stepson Michael Palumbo; and a beloved cousin Karen Burke. She is survived by her pride and joy, her son Howard C. Borden; a brother Frederick (Linda) Rohrs; four nieces Tara (Bill) Adams, Sarah (Timothy) Chapp, Erica (Peter) Wing, and Mackensie (Jacob) Greene; two nephews Rick (Carrie) Rohrs and Christian (Tristan) Rohrs; two step-children Shelley Palumbo and Rick (Cheryl) and several great-nieces -nephews, and step-grandchildren. A devout Seventh-Day Adventist, Suzanne’s faith surpassed all challenges this world offered. She always believed that the world would be a much better place if everyone had a compass of faith and belief: something all of us mourning her loss will never lose sight of. A graveside service will be held Monday, August 24th at 1:00 PM in Evergreen Cemetery in Fonda, NY. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to (S.O.C.K.S.)
