William E. Eglin

William E. Eglin, 78, of Fish House Road, Broadalbin, passed away on Tuesday, February 7, 2023, at Saratoga Hospital with his loving family at his side. He was born in Gloversville on February 20, 1944, a son of the late Emmett and Charlotte Warner Eglin and was a 1964 graduate of Broadalbin High School. Bill was a lifelong area resident. Mr. Eglin was employed at the former Elmer Little’s Gloves Shop in Johnstown, for twenty-five years. After retiring, he and his wife established the Grainery in Broadalbin, which they operated from 1982-1998. Bill was quite the businessman, always making deals, and running his general store. He enjoyed his farm and caring for his animals, including chickens that he raised since he was young and that he showed at local fairs. He also raised miniature horses and other farm animals that kept him and his family very busy. When he was younger, Bill raced his renowned “Dragula” at the Fonda Speedway. He enjoyed racing and his many fans. Bill was a very giving and generous man, especially at Christmas. He was always ready to help those in need. He enjoyed people and loved “being the boss.” Bill’s family was his world. He adored his wife and daughters, and cherished his grandchildren, who were the light of his life. Bill also had many friends that were dear to him. He enjoyed making amazing memories and enjoyed attending his class reunions. Survivors include his wife, Kathleen Donovan Eglin, whom he married on February 4, 1967; two daughters, Beth (Douglas) Austin of Carl Junction, MO and Jodi (Joseph) Brimhall of Saratoga Springs; a brother, David (Patricia) Eglin of Broadalbin; four grandchildren, Taylor and William Austin, Nicolas DeSessa, and Emma Brimhall; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Calling hours will be held on Friday from 4 – 7 pm at the Robert M. Halgas Funeral Home, Inc. 111 County Highway 106 (Corner of Route 29 & Black Street), Johnstown. A prayer service will be held Saturday at 1:30 pm at the funeral home with Rev. Jun Segura, officiating. Spring burial will be in Union Mills Cemetery, Broadalbin. Memorial contributions may be made to the Broadalbin Library or to Cornell Cooperative Extension- Fulton & Montgomery Counties, both in care of the funeral home.
