Douglas R. Steenburg Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Douglas R. Steenburg, 72, of Perth, passed away at home on Tuesday, April 19, 2022. Born in Gloversville on December 14, 1949, Doug was a son of Harold and Helen Van Alstyne Steenburg. He was a graduate of Guilderland High School, class of 1967, and moved to Perth in 1980. Doug was employed at General Electric Co. in Schenectady for many years, retiring in 1994 due to a disability. Mr. Steenburg had a talent in restoring muscle cars and was an outdoorsman, enjoying hunting and fishing. He was a former member of the Pine Tree Rifle Club. In addition to his parents, Doug was predeceased by his first wife, Diane, on January 31, 1989; two brothers, Clifford Belden and Phillip Belden, Sr.; and a son, Todd Schopmeier. Survivors include his wife, Sandra J. Seaman Steenburg; four children, Rebecca Tahnate (Lawrence), Stacey (Kyle) Wagner, Kristen (Tim) Weeden, and Thomas (Kristine) Schopmeier; a sister, Roberta Dumblewski; seven grandchildren, Aaron, Ellie, Diana, Bo Douglas, Annisa, Seth, and Ryan; two great-granddaughters, Ava and Scarlet; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. The family will receive relatives and friends on Saturday, April 23, 2022, from 11 am – 1pm at the Robert M. Halgas Funeral Home, Inc. 111 County Highway 106 (Corner of Route 29 & Black Street), Johnstown. Funeral services will follow at 1pm with Rev. Amy Florence of the United Presbyterian Church of Amsterdam, officiating. Burial will be held at Ferndale Cemetery, Johnstown at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made in Doug’s memory to the United Presbyterian Church of Amsterdam or to the Brennan Memorial Humane Society, both in care of the funeral home.
