Her parents arrived in America from Italy and settled in St. Johnsville, where Eleanor grew up with her three “older” sisters. She graduated from St. Johnsville High School and later Mildred Elley in Albany. Eleanor began her working career in the St. Johnsville library and later was employed at the former Broadalbin Bank. She was a dedicated employee and worked many years at Amsterdam Printing Co. in the accounts receivable department before retiring. Along the way, they also spent much time boating on the Sacandaga and spending time on Sand Island. Eleanor spent time with Alex on his motorcycle and snowmobile in her “younger” years. She loved to travel and enjoyed every minute of it. Her travels took her to Cape Cod, Europe, Hawaii, Florida, Colorado, and so many other places. Survivors include, her husband, Alex, whom she married on June 26, 1948; her six children, Alexis Hayes of Fort Johnson, Connie (Paul) Dettenrieder of Tribes Hill, Betsy (Jack) Schero of Tampa, FL, Tim (Mary Lynn) Klymkow of Liverpool, NY, Kelly (Eric) Pistilli and Lisa (Joseph ) Masaitis, all of Broadalbin; fourteen grandchildren, Jim (Julie) Hayes, Jason Hayes , Shawn (Nicole) Dettenrieder, Mark and Scott Dettenrieder, Erica (Wes) Harris, Jennifer (Chris) Eaton, Lesley Pistilli (Cliff), Nicholas (Nicole) Pistilli, Emily,Amy, and Alex Klymkow, Lauren and Caitlin Masaitis; and four sweet great-grandchildren, Matheu Dettenrieder, Olivia Harris, Madeline Eaton, and Isabella Pistilli. Eleanor was a sweet, kind lady. She never had a bad word to say about anyone and truly enjoyed having all of her family around her. Sundays will continue to be pasta day as it was her tradition. “Granny” will be truly missed but her love and spirit will continue in the grandchildren’s hearts forever. We now all have our own guardian angel watching over us. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 11am at the Robert M. Halgas Funeral Home, Inc. 111 County Highway 106 (Corner of Route 29 & Black Street) Johnstown with Rev. Bonnie Orth, officiating. Burial will be in the Broadalbin-Mayfield Rural Cemetery.
