Robert E. Mooney Jr.

June 3, 1937 - January 11, 2022

Robert E. Mooney, Jr., 84, of Hope Falls Road, Northville, passed away Tuesday, January 11, 2022, at St. Mary’s Healthcare, Amsterdam with loving family at his side. He was born in Albany on June 3, 1937, a son of Robert and Patricia Margaria Mooney and attended local schools. Bob lived in Willsboro before moving to Northville in 2011. Mr. Mooney worked at the Port of Albany as a heavy equipment operator and later with Clemente Latham Concrete in Troy, retiring in 1997. He enjoyed the outdoors and spending time with his best friend, his dog, Cooper. Bob’s greatest passion was American history. His real expertise was the Civil war as well as the French and Indian war and battles in the late 1750’s. He was an authority on the weapons of the period. At one time he had, and used, flintlocks and caplocks, which he built from scratch. He used these in competitions throughout the northeast. Mr. Mooney was a veteran of the US Army. On February 20, 1971, he married Jean Fonda Mooney. Sadly, she died July 22, 2010. In addition to his wife and parents, Bob was predeceased by a brother, Thomas. Survivors include three children, Colleen (Glenn) Cummings of Schaghticoke, Scott Mooney of Norfolk, VA, and Patricia (Mark) Mulvena of Middle Grove; a sister, Dawn Rizzo of Colonie; a brother, Michael Mooney of Albany; five grandchildren; and a great-grandson. Cremation was performed at Park View Crematorium, Schenectady. Calling hours will be held on Saturday, January 22, 2022, from 2 – 4 pm at the Robert M. Halgas Funeral Home, Inc. 111 County Highway 106 (Corner of Route 29 & Black Street), Johnstown.
