CAROL L. DEMAREST It is with hearts shattered and overflowing with love that we mourn the loss of Carol L. Demarest, a beacon of warmth and kindness, who left us on Sunday, May 24, 2026, at Ellis Hospital in Schenectady, New York. At 85 years old, Carol’s life was a radiant testament to love, family, and the enduring spirit of joy. Born in Gloversville, NY, on September 8, 1940, she came into this world as a precious daughter of William and Marie Christoff Demarest. Her roots were deeply planted in her local community, and she carried that sense of belonging with her through every chapter of her life. Since 1978, she has called Johnstown home, filling it with love and laughter. Carol dedicated herself to her work as a customer service representative at UPS in Gloversville for 14 faithful years, retiring with pride. Her life, however, was not without loss. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Norma Demarest, and her brother, Gordon Demarest. Yet, she leaves behind an unbreakable legacy of love and connection. Her heart was forever intertwined with her lifelong companion, Lorenzo C. Beekman, whose presence brought her immense happiness—an extraordinary, unique love story filled with love, laughter, handholding and shared dreams. Carol’s spirit lives on through her cherished children—her daughters Lavina (Douglas) Town of Johnstown, Jennie (Robert) Knowlton of Seagrove, NC, and Angel (Javier) Spencer of Lawrenceville, GA—and her beloved grandchildren: Jessica Town (Ryan), Trey Knowlton, Dustin and Dalton Town, Kyriece Spencer, and great-granddaughter Charlie Zinter. She also leaves behind a sister-in-law, Nancy Demarest, countless nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends whose lives she touched profoundly. Her dearest friends—Jeannie, Sheila, and Catherine—will forever hold her memory close. The family deeply thanks her caring dedicated grandniece, Lashea Robinson, and her niece, Darlene Vogt, for their unwavering love, devotion, and support. Carol’s zest for life was truly contagious. She found joy in the simple pleasures—spending time with loved ones, shopping, playing cards, and visiting casinos. Her adventurous spirit took her across Georgia, North Carolina, Florida, and on countless cruises, camping, always embracing every new experience with passion. She reveled in hosting backyard gatherings, creating lifelong memories with family and friends, filling every moment with warmth and laughter. Above all, Carol’s greatest blessing was the love she shared with Lorenzo—a love that endured nearly seven decades. Together, they built a life rooted in laughter, unwavering love and the cherished traditions they nurtured for their daughters and all who entered their home. She was, without a doubt, the most incredible woman, mother and grandmother anyone could ever hope for—her unconditional love, her gentle spirit, and her undeniable strength defined her legacy. Whether sharing heartfelt and funny stories or guiding us through life's storms, her impact on our lives is beyond measure. Carol’s influence reaches far beyond her family. She was a shining light of kindness and creativity—her generosity knew no bounds. She made friends wherever she went, with a rare gift for making everyone feel like part of her family, part of her heart. And now, in Heaven, she will continue to spread her love, her laughter, and her beautiful soul for all eternity. A celebration of Carol’s beautiful life will be held at a later date. All who loved her will be welcome to attend and share stories and celebrate the incredible woman who gave us so much. Cremation was performed at Park View Crematorium, Schenectady. Arrangements are by the Robert M. Halgas Funeral Home, Inc., Johnstown, NY.
