Gregory Scott Bailey

Gregory Scott Bailey, 57, of County Highway 132, Hagaman, passed away at home on Wednesday, September 9, 2026, with loving family at his side. He was born in Amsterdam on June 30, 1969, a son of William and Joyce Buell and was a 1987 graduate of Amsterdam High School. Greg was a lifelong area resident. Mr. Bailey was employed as a plumber/steamfitter and was a 30-year member of the Local #7, Plumbers & Steamfitter Union in Albany. He retired in May due to illness. At the time of his death, Greg was operating the family farm in Amsterdam. He was a veteran of the US Navy and was honorably discharged in 1991. Greg loved spending time with family and friends. Some of his favorite past times included hunting, farming, snowmobiling, and attending sporting events for his grandchildren. Most of all, he enjoyed attending off-road events. Greg was known to the mudding community as “BIG BAILEY”. He and his mud truck would frequently travel to many off-road events. He was an avid New York Giants football fan. Another one of Greg’s favorite hobbies included growing giant pumpkins and competing in the Chamber of Commerce Giant Pumpkin Contest in Saratoga Springs. Greg also enjoyed riding around daily with his side-by-side companion, pet Mocha, who was there by his side until his passing. Survivors include his wife, Sonja M. Brice Bailey, whom he married on July 8, 1995; two sons, Jeremy (Krystin) Bailey of Broadalbin and Tyler (Grace) Bailey of Galway; his parents, William and Joyce Bailey of Amsterdam; a sister, Stefanie (Stan) Genega of Charlton; two grandsons, Christopher and Reed, and a baby boy expected in February; two nieces, Courtney and Caitlyn; a sister-in-law, Summer (Marc) Denison and their daughters, Sierra and Sadie, whom Greg considered as his daughters; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins. Calling hours will be held on Thursday, September 17, 2026, from 4-7pm at the Robert M. Halgas Funeral Home, Inc., 111 County Highway 106 (corner of Route 29 & Black Street), Johnstown. A graveside service with military honors will be held on Friday at 11am at West Galway Cemetery with Rev. Kathy Reese officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the St. Peter’s ALS Regional Center, in care of the funeral home.
