Helen J. "Honey" Roller

Helen Joyce Roller, affectionately known to everyone as “Honey,” went to be with the Lord on Sunday, January 25, 2026. She was 96 years young, though she possessed the spirit of someone half her age and the organizational system of a high-end government agency. Born in Gloversville on April 6, 1929, she was the daughter of Albert and Elizabeth (Elsie) Morbach Roller. A lifelong resident of the area, Honey was a graduate of both the St. Mary’s School and Gloversville High School (Class of 1947). Honey was a devout Catholic and member of the former Sacred Heart Church and Church of The Holy Spirit. Honey’s work ethic was legendary. After early stints as a candy striper and a clerk at the stationery counter at McClellan’s Department Store while in high school, she dedicated nearly five decades mastering the art of the payroll. She worked at Schines from 1948-1951 when she went to work for the company that was later acquired by Zuckerwar and the Grandoe Corporation in 1953. Honey remained with the Grandoe Corporation until her retirement in June 1997. Honey was known for and loved fiercely for her positive attitude, sharp wit, and fun loving personality. She was almost always in a good mood humming, singing, and dancing. She was one of a kind - the kind of person who never filtered her thoughts, never held back her opinions, and never once pretended to be anything other than exactly who she was. She was meticulous about everything - finances, cleaning, organizing, and punctuality. Everything had a way in which it was to be done and/or its place and she let you know it! Honey was always up for an adventure and loved to travel to take in sights and visit family. Each year Honey hosted the family’s traditional Christmas Eve party, recreating days of old where she made the “kids” sing silent night before opening their gifts and posing for excessive photos. Honey loved sweets, was famous for her whipped jello, making her own birthday cards, wrapping birthday gifts with the newspaper comics, and watching Hallmark movies. Always young at heart, Honey kept up with all of the trends - watching tv shows and mastering social media so that she could keep up with all of her nieces and nephews who were spread out across the states. She texted, posted on Facebook, sent snapchats, and liked instagram posts. Her nightly "good night" Facebook messages were a staple for her loved ones, often accompanied by the occasional—and entirely accidental—Facebook Live broadcast or Snapchat post that kept her family laughing across state lines. Her humor, warmth, and unmistakable presence will be deeply missed. Survivors include her brother, Julius C. Roller Sr. of Johnstown, and a sprawling legacy of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews, stretching all the way down to the "great-greats." She was predeceased by her parents, her brothers, Albert (Shonny) Roller Jr. and Edward Roller Sr. and her sister, Doris Cotoia. The family extends their sincere appreciation to the aides who provided Honey with such wonderful care and companionship over the past few years. Calling hours will be held on Friday, February 6, 2026, from 12:00 - 1:00 p.m. at the Robert M. Halgas Funeral Home, Inc., 111 County Highway 106, Johnstown. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 2:00 p.m. at The Church of the Holy Spirit, with Father Matt Wetsel officiating. Burial will be in the spring at Prospect Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Meals on Wheels in care of the funeral home.
