Shirley M. McClarren

Shirley M. McClarren of County Highway 138, Broadalbin died suddenly on Wednesday February 17, 2016 hours before her 82nd birthday. She died at home surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Derry, PA on February 18, 1934 a daughter of Albert A. and Sylvia Kelly Cromling and lived in Ohio, Virginia, and Pennsylvania before moving to Broadalbin in 1951. Shirley was a 1955 graduate of Broadalbin High School. She was a waitress at the former White Holland House prior to starting her family. Shirley cherished her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved Christmas and her home was decorated for Christmas year round. She and her husband, Don, spent time traveling to Florida and going on many vacations. Shirley enjoyed cooking and baking, and at one time made her own Easter candy. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by two brothers, Albert and Floyd Cromling. On December 25, 1955 she married Donald E. McClarren, Sr. who survives. They recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. In addition to her husband, survivors include her children, Donald E. (Cynthia) McClarren, Jr., Timothy D. McClarren, Sr., and Holly (Kenneth) Bunn, all of Broadalbin; her grandchildren, Shirleen McClarren (David Muncy) of Amsterdam, Sam Negrich of Mayfield, Timothy (Kim) McClarren, Jr., Patrick McClarren, Jared (Ty-Ann) Bunn, all of Broadalbin, Jeffrey (Elise) Bunn of N. Ferrisburgh, VT, and Taylor Bunn (Aaron Harrington) of Argyle; her great-grandchildren, Nicholas and Derek Bunn, and Camden and Bennett McClarren, all of Broadalbin, Logan Darling of Amsterdam, and Kaelynn Harrington of Argyle; her siblings, Muriel (Alan) Salvione, William Cromling, and Ira (Sandra) Cromling, all of Broadalbin; Molly (David) Brick of Gloversville, and Robert Cromling of Johnstown; and several nieces, nephews, and other extended family. Calling hours will be held on Monday from 4 to 6 pm at the Robert M. Halgas Funeral Home, Inc. 111 County Highway 106 (Corner of Route 29 & Black Street) Johnstown. A service will follow at 6 pm at the funeral home with Rev. Judy Humphrey-Fox, officiating. Spring burial will be held in the Union Mills Cemetery, Broadalbin. Memorial contributions may be made to the Broadalbin United Methodist Church, in care of the funeral home.
